Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MSU Pre-Vet Club?

Each meeting we invite speakers to give a presentation to the club on different veterinary-related topics. These discussions include research, owning a business, preparing for vet school, and personal stories from veterinarians all around the world. Our goal is to engage pre-vet students from every major and provide value through educational discussions, volunteering, and building a network of students and professionals.

How do I become a member?

Anyone with a pre-vet concentration or those looking to attend vet school can become a member. To be considered an active member of the pre-vet club each student must pay dues, earn four committee points, complete four volunteer hours and sign into four out of six meetings throughout the semester.

Why should I be a member?

Alongside educational keynote speakers and networking within the club, each semester a list of active members is sent to the vet school admissions board. This allows all pre-vet club members to build name recognition with the vet school and continue to get plugged in on their journey to veterinary school. The admissions committee will recognize your commitment and dedication to a pre-professional organization such as our club.

How much are club dues?

Club dues are $20 each semester or $35 for the school year. These can be payed using cash at the meeting or on venmo @msuprevetclub with “dues” and your NetID as the caption.

How do I earn committee points?

Committee points can be earned in many different ways. Some of these include committees include Academic Insight, Pups N’ Suds, Public Relations, and more. With each event or community activity the club has going on, there will be an opportunity to earn points. It is important to stay up to date and engaged with club announcements to not miss out on these points.

I have a time conflict during meetings, can I still be an active member?

asdYes! We understand that class, labs, and recitation can conflict with our meeting times. These are the only valid excuses for not attending meetings. Students with these circumstances must send proof of their conflict to our secretary at msupvcsecretary@gmail.com to be excused. Alternative active members are still required to pay dues and to earn five committee points and five volunteer hours instead of four.

How do I earn volunteer hours? How do I log these hours?

Volunteer hours are earned by completing an animal related service activity or opportunity provided by the Pre-Vet Club. At the Oktibbeha County Humane Society, there is always a sheet at the front desk to sign in and complete tasks to earn service hours. This sheet is checked and logged by our Vice President. VETTCO is another way to earn volunteer hours. Other opportunities will be presented throughout the semester. To be considered an active member you must earn four of these hours.

How do I join committee and volunteer GroupMe’s?

Under the “Officers” tab there are buttons underneath the officers that are in charge of a committee. By clicking these buttons you will be taken to join the GroupMe. All questions and concerns about that group should be sent to the officer who owns the group via direct message or email.

How do I turn in proof of a flyer on social media?

If you are posting flyers on social media as a way to earn committee points, you should be in the public relations GroupMe. Send a direct message to the group owner and they will record your points on their spreadsheet.
